Scott began playing trumpet in 1965 in his hometown of Palmdale, California. During his early school years Scott performed with his local school bands and was one of the first of the high school members allowed to perform in the hometown Adult Community Band and Orchestra. In addition to playing cornet and trumpet, Scott also plays French Horn and Mellophone.

Scott's musical accomplishements include the premier European Concert Tour of America's Youth in Concert, sponsored by the Universal Academy of Music in 1971. Scott was selected from over 500 high school French Horn musicians to participate as one of eight Horns in the Symphonic Concert Band. During the tour, Scott performed in Carnegie Hall, New York; Constitution Hall, Washington D.C.; The Royal Albert Hall, London, U.K.; The Gardens of the Palace of Luxembourg, Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; Rome and Venice, Italy.

While serving in the Navy, Scott was a member of the volunteer band onboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) from 1975-1978. The Nimitz Band performed for many visiting heads of state including the King & Queen of Spain. During his last Mediterranean cruise in 1977-78 Scott also served as the band's director.

Scott is currently a member of the Prince William Community Band of Prince William County, Virginia. In addition to his musical talents, Scott also administers the bands website and is a member of the board.
